A few hot (and some not) special event ideas for spring 2012 include: Texting. We are definitely going to see more texting during live events as producers try to help guests feel more connected and engaged, as a way for organizations to capture contact information and, of course, as another avenue for fundraising and highlighting event sponsors. Companies like Textlive, FireText and Tuff Entertainment Group are forces behind this growing trend. The lounge scene in leopard print may be passé, but modular furniture is still hot, particularly now that it can all be branded with slip covers. Modern Line Furniture has a new supermodern, superchic line called Coco. Cake shooters – really? – apparently, cake on a stick is “in.” But, I’m not buying it. Moving on. I do love the FujiFilm Instax that allows guests to take photos that instantly print out à la Polaroid but so, so much better. AlphaVite is kind of cool: They produce die cut invitations from the letters in your name (or company) that can be tailored with text and photos. We might be seeing more backdrops as a great option to help fill in space or cover an uninteresting or unsightly wall, and they can also be used as a trompe-l’œil. Check out some great ideas from Beautiful Backdrops. One of my favorite products to come out recently is the Point N Party Line from Acolyte, which is a remote controlled LED lighting system that can be used with florals and table settings. It is really cool! Glitter encrusted chocolate bonbons – need I say more! And, completely round floral arrangements, new from Oasis Floral Products. Love them. Have fun with this spring’s events and make a splash!
